Cat lovers... get ready for a feline fight! A new study says dogs are smarter than cats... CNN has the details.
“That’s according to research at Oxford University, who say dogs are more intelligent because their friendly character helped them develop bigger brains. Cats like to go it alone, so they don’t have to think as much.”
It looks like Rover’s attention-seeking behavior might have paid off. The Telegraph reports researchers found a link between brain size, and the need to please.
“It was often thought that the feline pet was smarter than its canine counterpart because it needed less attention but researchers have discovered that cat’s brains are smaller because they are less social.”
...but Phoenix ABC affiliate KNXV’s viewers question whether researchers are barking up the wrong tree...
FEMALE ANCHOR: “Michael Todd Robinson says ‘Why is it that dogs respond to their names and cats act stupid when you call them? I love my Cocker Spaniel.’”
MALE ANCHOR: “...but Tiffany chimes in and says ‘Dogs and cats are just like humans, there are smart ones and there are dumb ones. This is just like saying women are smarter than men...and yes, I have pets, three dogs and one cat.”
FEMALE ANCHOR: “Women aren’t smarter than men, Tiffany, really?”
MALE ANCHOR: “Yeah, I’m a guy and I can tell you that women are smarter than men.”
And Jimmy Fallon, always the sympathetic one, understands why cat lovers haven’t been sharpening their claws about the study.
JIMMY FALLON: “Cat people would complain about the findings, but that would involve interacting with other humans...so...” (LAUGHTER)
However, the study delved into more than just cats vs. dogs. It shows the brains of monkeys grew the most over time, followed by horses, dolphins, camels and dogs. So, should the new saying be ‘dogs rule and cats drool’? Or is the study bound to hack up a hairball? You tell us.
